THE QUICKEST ROUTE
Take I-95 North to Bangor, exit 182A, and continue on I-395 to exit 6A. Drive east on Route 1A to Ellsworth, then take Route 3 into Bar Harbor.
THE SCENIC ROUTE
Take I-95 North to Augusta, exit 113, and follow Route 3 into Bar Harbor. (Note: in high season the scenic route could add 45-60 minutes to your journey.)
During 2017, the State of Maine will be making long-needed highway improvements on Route 3 leading into Bar Harbor. Significant parts of Route 3 will be closed as construction commences.
Consequently, look for route detour signage just after you drive onto Mount Desert Island. These detours are well-marked and will lead you through the scenic center of Mount Desert island. It is not anticipated that route detours will add significantly to your travel time to downtown Bar Harbor and theUllikana Cottage Inn.
Google Maps and other online map services can provide updated turn-by-turn directions for getting to the Ullikana Cottage Inn, 16 The Field, Bar Harbor, once you enter town by the detour route.
BAR HARBOR/HANCOCK COUNTY AIRPORT (BHB)
Twelve miles from downtown Bar Harbor, the airport is served by Pen Air (800-448-4226) and Cape Air (866-CAPE-AIR) with direct or connecting flights from Boston. (Note: Cape Air code–shares with JetBlue to simplify your booking.) BHB has taxi service (with prior arrangement) and rental cars from Enterprise and Hertz.
BANGOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BGR)
Fifty miles from Bar Harbor, this airport is served by American (1 (800) 433-7300), Allegiant (702-505-8888), Delta (800-221-1212) and US Airways (800-428-4322). Most major rental car companies are also located within the airport.
